Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013Every day, tons of great little jailbreak tweaks and apps for the iPhone come out that we don't talk about. These can be as minor as a tweak that allows you to change how the music app works to full blown apps that let you record your screen. With that in mind, here are a few of our favorites from the last few months.

Since not much has changed in iOS over the years, jailbreakers have been actively pushing out all kinds of great tweaks and apps. You'll need to jailbreak your phone to use these, but the process is simple to do and only takes a few minutes.

QuickShoot Pro Adds Secretive Photo Snapping from Almost Anywhere

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013QuickShoot Pro (99?) is very simple in premise, but surprisingly useful. Instead of tapping and launching the camera app to take a picture, you just need to double-tap an icon on the home screen and it instantly snaps a picture. That works on the camera grabber on the lock screen too. If video is more your thing, you can triple-tap any icon to start shooting. If you're a fan of snapping quick photos without anyone noticing, QuickShoot Pro is a great addition to your library.

MusicWidget Gives You Access to Your Currently Playing Song on the Home Screen

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013MusicWidget (free) is especially handy if you listen to a lot of music on your iPhone. When you double-tap the Music app, MusicWidget opens up a small folder that allows you to pause and skip tracks. It's simple, but it's well done and saves you from having to either open up the music app or scroll over to the music controls in the multitasking bar.

Pluck Adds a Music Picker to the Lock Screen

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013Pluck (free) is a tweak that makes it so you can actually access your music library directly from the lock screen. When you double-tap the home button to pull up the music controls from the lock screen, Pluck adds a small button to the screen that gives you access to songs. From here, you can pick a new song, playlist, or artist without every unlocking your device.

Protect Photos Locks Your Photos (and Any Other App) Away from Prying Eyes

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013If you hand your phone over to people a lot, you might want to keep certain parts of your phone private. Protect Photos (free) is a simple little tweak that allows you to add password protection to any app?including the photo, camera, wallpaper settings, and just about anything else. It's simple, but if you want to keep your iPhone a little more private it works great.

WeatherIcon 6 Adds Current Weather to the Weather Icon

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013One of the best things in iOS is how the Calendar app icon auto-updates the date. It's one of those simple, but useful things. Unfortunately, the weather app doesn't do the same thing. WeatherIcon 6 (free) is an older app recently updated for iOS 6 that adds the current weather to your Weather app icon (or any icon) so you always know what's going on outside.

RecordMyScreen Records Everything You Do on Your Screen

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013Most of us don't really need to record our iPhone screens, but occasionally it's nice to do when you're on a high score run in your favorite game you want to show off to friends or you're making a how-to guide. RecordMyScreen (free) is an open source and free app that makes recording your screen incredibly simple. Just hit the record button and RecordMyScreen records everything you do on your device. When you're done, you can save the file on your iPhone or email it.

Animer Adds Animations to Your Notifications, Alerts, and Multitasking

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013If you're getting bored with how notification work on your iPhone, then Animer (99?) gives you the chance to spice things up a bit. You can choose between several different options to customize the animation for notification banners, alerts, and even how multitasking works.

Instahancer Saves, Copies, and Zooms Images from Instagram

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013One of the minor annoyances with Instagram is that you can't save photos directly from the app. That means when a friend snaps a great picture of you it's stuck on their phone. Instahancer ($1) adds the ability to tap and hold images in Instagram to save them to your camera roll. On top of that, it also adds the ability to send photos directly from your camera roll over to Instagram, a zoom option, and a drafts function to Instagram.

Icon Tool Adds a Ton of Options to Any App

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013Icon Tool ($1) makes "jitter mode" on your iPhone a lot more useful. When you're in jitter mode, triple tap an icon and Icon Tool gives you a bunch of new options, including: open in iFile, clear app badges, clear app caches, backup data, and more. If you want a little more control over how your apps handle data, Icon Tool is worth a look.

PowerActions Customizes What Happens When Your Phone Is Plugged In

Your Quarterly Jailbreak App Roundup, April 2013PowerActions (free) allows you to set up what happens when you plug your iPhone in. This might include custom alerts, muting, turning on Wi-Fi, and even playing music (which is handy if you're docking it into a stereo). PowerAction essentially automates what happens when you plug your phone in, and that's surprisingly useful if your plugging and unplugging is routine.

Of course, tons of great jailbreak apps exist. If you want to customize your device even more, check out our favorite jailbreak apps for iOS 6.
