Pilates has been a buzzword for some time. But actually, why would you want to do it and what is it really for?
Continue reading to see my top seven reasons for why Pilates is fabulous.1 ? It?ll make you less prone to muscular aches and pains in your back, neck and shoulders. This comes from creating stronger back and abdominal muscles with better endurance. These make it easier to keep yourself upright all day long.
2 ? You?ll gain better concentration and focus. Concentrating on more efficient breathing calms your mind and improves the flow of oxygen to your brain and muscles. The routine of practise and focus can help massively in our short attention span world!
3 ? How would you like to ?lose? half a stone instantly? Simply standing taller with your abdominal ?corset? activating to pull you in round the middle makes you look slimmer and more confident. And it can make your other muscles appear longer and leaner too.
4 ? Over time you?ll find you can naturally re-align your rounded shoulders and pull back your jutting chin.? Seriously, do you really want to keep the permanently rounded back and neck which comes from habitual bad posture and makes you look years older?
5 ? You?ll gain improved balance and reduce your likelihood of falling. Building a stronger, more stable centre (the infamous ?core?) also gives you a better awareness of your own body in space.
6 ? Get yourself more efficient movement by correcting imbalances between over tight and over loose muscles. Those nasties we can all develop through habitual poor movement habits, posture and body composition. Imbalances pull hips, shoulders, backs etc? in funny directions, often causing discomfort, pain and injury. You may be particularly aware of this if you?re pushing your body harder through regular repetitive sporting activities.
7 ? And finally, how does improved flexibility and mobility sound to you? It won?t turn you into a bendy contortionist, but will keep you limber and free to move as you please.
