GM adding 400 jobs at Pontiac facility

PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) - General Motors says the company will invest $200 million at their Global Powertrain Engineering Headquarters in Pontiac to build a new test wing.

The construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2014. It is part of GM's commitment to invest $1.5 billion in it's North American facilities during 2013.

The expansion plan calls for engineering work that is currently being done in Wixom, Castleton, Indiana and Torrance, California, to be moved to Pontiac.

The work being done at Wixom will be moved by mid-2015. Torrance will be moved by the end of 2014 and Castleton will be moved by mid-2014.

GM R&D's Propulsion Systems Research Lab in Warren will also relocated to Pontiac. The facility will be transferred by mid-2015.

The moves are expected to create about 400 new jobs.

However, GM also announced today that the Performance Build Center, which is currently located in Wixom, will be moving to the GM's Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky sometime in the first quarter of 2014.?
